"'Chalice' is one of a series that began in 1985 as an attempt to make one hundred objects, all related yet each unique. I chose the chalice image for its loaded history as an icon common to many cultures and movements, a symbol of humankind's eternal quest for perfection and striving for "well-being." The series of chalices has never stopped and have grown in variation and scale, although all continue to be fabricated from industrial relics."
"With an intuitive sense of scale and composition, and highly skilled craftsmanship, Al Frega transforms found objects and industrial materials into a powerful, evocative sculpture-a monument to everyday life--that references manual labor, the machine age, ceremonial objects, and iconic forms."
