From the Director's Desk: New Events, Programs, and Partners!
In honor of our 20th year of “inspiring art, building community,” we are proud to invite you to join us in celebrating our past accomplishments, exciting new programs, and visions for Cary’s creative future!
Cary Visual Art’s impact is seen in schools, hospitals, civic and community centers, and outdoor public spaces all over Cary. CVA has also placed over 50 works of art in parks, businesses and public spaces across Cary, and our signature Outdoor Sculpture Competition & Exhibition, which places sculpture temporarily throughout downtown Cary, is entering its 9th year! We also provide free art outreach workshops to underserved groups and give an impressive $12,500 in scholarships to exceptional young artists.
This year, by bringing together all our creative voices in the public sphere and empowering our youth to use their creativity to change the world, we are diving fully into our mission of inspiring art and building community.
We are excited to announce our newest exhibition space, the CVA Gallery at The Cary News, on the second floor of The Cary Theatre. We will curate exhibitions in this space, as well as host artist talks in conjunction with programming at The Cary Theatre. Stop by to see us at the next Final Friday!
We have also created partnerships with Cary High School, Panther Creek High School, and Middle Creek High School to launch a brand-new Public Art in School artist-in-residence program. This fall, artist Stacey Kirby will work at each of these schools on a semester-long piece called The Power of the Ballot that incorporates the curricula from the art and civics departments. In the spring, artist Carter Hubbard will teach the students about developing their own voices in a poetry workshop project.
With all the construction in Cary’s downtown, we are also stepping up to energize the storefronts. We are pairing artists and retailers together for the Cary Storefront Project to create temporary art projects in storefronts and empty spaces. These projects will begin appearing in June to encourage walking and exploring downtown.
We are thrilled about all our new plans and community partnerships, and it is all thanks to your stalwart and generous support!
