March 02, 2010

Cary Visual Art is pleased to announce Anthony Blackman as the recipient of the 2010 Business Support of the Arts Awards, sponsored by the United Arts Council and The Raleigh Chamber of Commerce for the individual category.

Below is the nomination for Anthony Blackman--a member of the Cary community who supports CVA and many other wonderful causes and organizations in our area.

Congratulations, Anthony Blackman, and thank you for your service to our community!

Cary Visual Art would like to nominate Anthony Blackman, the president of Atlantic Tire & Service, for the 2010 Business Support of the Arts Award. Mr. Blackman's motto at Atlantic Tire & Service is "Trust, Service, and Commitment." He takes those three character principles very seriously, and applies them not only to his business, but to the organizations he is involved with in the community. Mr. Blackman spends his valuable time making his business "The Best of Western Wake", as Atlantic Tire was voted the "Best Mechanic" by Cary Magazine for the Maggy Awards. In 2008 and 2001, Atlantic Tire & Service won the Cary Chamber's Community Service Award. Mr. Blackman received the 2006 Citizen of the Year Award, in large part, due to the company's focus on community outreach. Additionally, Atlantic Tire also won the Morrisville Chamber Small Business of the Year Award in 2008. Atlantic Tire & Service sponsors and supports dozens of local community projects and school fundraisers a year. It also encourages its employees to join Rotary Club or Jaycees and to participate in philanthropy projects like the American Cancer Society's Road to Recovery program. Most recently, Mr. Blackman was named 2009 Business Leader of the Year, awarded by the Cary Chamber of Commerce. Anthony Blackman still finds the time, after making his business successful and reliable, to support Cary Visual Art in our endeavors to promote, inspire, encourage, and support visual art for the uplifting of the human spirit in the Cary community. Mr. Blackman has served Cary Visual Art by sponsoring the CVA Art Ball, by serving on the Executive Board, as well as acted as a chair for the Fundraising Committee for Cary Visual Art.

Anthony Blackman has supported Cary Visual Art by sponsoring the Art Ball, our signature fundraising event, since 2002. He has been a ten thousand dollar Presenting Sponsor four times over the past eight years, including our most recent beautiful and successful ball! In a time of economic uncertainty, his unwavering support has held true to his commitment to the public art in our community. Cary Visual Art relies on funds from the Art Ball to stay alive, as this event is our largest effort in fundraising each year. Steady support from donors like Anthony Blackman is the lifeline of Cary Visual Art.

Not only does Mr. Blackman support us financially of his own accord, but he works very hard to get other businesses engaged in what Cary Visual Art is doing for the arts community in our area. Anthony Blackman is the chairman of Cary Visual Art's Fundraising Committee, and he rallies businesses in our town to support the arts by making the place we all live, work, and play a strong and vibrant arts community.

Cary Visual Art would be thrilled to see such an influential member of our community receive recognition for his hard work and achievements, as Anthony Blackman enhances the quality of life in Cary by running a business and supporting the arts gaining trust, with service, and with commitment.
