CVA's 2009 Outdoor Sculpture Exhibition

Cary Visual Art invites you to view ten works of art in our 2009 show on display at the Cary, North Carolina Town Hall Campus located at 316 N. Academy located in the heart of downtown Cary. CVA's long-time partnership with the Town of Cary has made this opportunity for established and emerging artists to show sculpture in Cary’s art-friendly environment possible. This Exhibition provides an art buyer reassurance that an expert in the field of sculpture selected this work for craftsmanship and merit. It’s an honor to have Linda Johnson Dougherty, Chief Curator & Curator of Contemporary Art for the North Carolina Museum of Art in Raleigh, as the 2009 OSE juror.

The  winner of the  $5,000 grand prizewinner was annouced during the Town of Cary's Lazy Daze festival; Congratulations to Alvin Frega of Durham, whose piece, "Chalice" was awarded "Best in Show."  In selecting "Best in Show," Juror Linda Dougherty observed, "With an intuitive sense of scale and composition, and highly skilled craftsmanship, Al Frega transforms found objects and industrial materials into a powerful, evocative sculpture--a monument to everyday life--that references manual labor, the machine age, ceremonial objects, and iconic forms."

In addition to the grand prize, all artists who have installed their work for this exhibition received $1,000 honorarium. All works are for sale.

We hope we have made the information you seek about the show, the artists and their artwork available to you on this website. Please contact us if you have further questions or comments.

Cary Visual Art, a nonprofit organization whose purpose is to bring inspiring art to Cary through public art projects and education programs, established this sculpture event in cooperation with the Town of Cary, NC and support from the United Arts Council.
