2016 Recipients

Felix Chang

It’s probably pretty cheesy, but I started drawing around third or fourth grade with anime. Now, I didn’t realize this, but art would simply become my passion. What I like about it is that creating art is a journey. You can NEVER be finished.

Madeline Denton

I make it my personal goal to spread art throughout my school and community. Art has changed my life, and I want others to feel the same way. I truly put my heart and soul into the National Art Honor Society (NAHS) at my school. As President, I have experienced firsthand the positive effect art and creativity has on our school and community.

Lavanya Gunturi

Art has always been important to me; it is a source of escape for my imagination. From a young age I have strived to improve my art skills and use them to help others.

Emerald Johnston

Arts & Tech Scholar

Art has been a part of my life for as long as I can remember, but it’s influence has changed over time. At age ten, I started oil painting at Cary Fine Arts studio. I was taught the classical way to paint. With the skills that I obtained I earned many wonderful opportunities for my work to be shown at restaurants, galleries, and the state fair.

Julia McGillicuddy

Throughout my time at Cardinal Gibbons High School, I've been given a lot of opportunities to be a part of many different clubs and extracurricular activities. I took advantage of these opportunities. I am a member of Student Council, Environmental Club, Varsity Soccer, Art Club, and I am a Student Ambassador for incoming transfer students. Through these clubs and teams, I have gained the opportunity to integrate my creative mind and abilities.
